1:1 Institute

Today I had a great day in Des Moines, IA at the 1:1 Institute... It was a great opportunity to collaborate and learn with other teachers who have the same passions as I do. I also got to present with two wonderful women whom I am lucky enough to work with on collaborative projects for our students. At 9am we had our first session and it was the first time I got to meet Stacey (Van Meter) face to face. Kim (South Hamilton) and I had already met last Friday. Well, our presentation was a big success and I have to say it was nice to hear so many compliments from other teachers in the audience. Lots of people came up to me to tell me what a great job I have been doing. It is nice to hear that sometimes... Later in the morning I got to present by myself about the different web sites I use in my classroom. The room was packed and I got a little nervous since the internet went down a few minutes before the presentation was to start. Luckily I had a savior ( Thanks Larry) who let me use his wireless internet through his phone. Needless to say the presentation had a rocky start, but things got going. I wasn't too happy with myself since I am my worst critic I was hoping to do a perfect job. I heard once that perfection is not an option, so I just have to be happy things turned out ok in the end. I did receive compliments and would like to thank all the high school teachers from Newell-Fonda who were all present to give me moral support.
I have to say this was an extraordinary day. Getting validation from others is fun and reassuring. I do love what I do and I truly enjoy figuring things out on the computer. I am hoping to keep pushing the envelope with the students. This has been a great year and I have really found my place. It is exciting to be part of this wonderful change that is taking place in the schools. Thank you everyone for a great experience today.
